Steps in the Right Direction

Today was just one of those days. It’s slow at work and rainy outside. So I decided there was no better time to write. Before that I wanted to do something I haven’t done in a while. I read through ALL of my blog posts. First thing I have to do is thank you; yes you, for reading this. I knew my stuff is deep and emotional but wow, the heartstrings I tend to pull at. It took reading back through everything to realize it’s some rough stuff to read. So thank you so much for supporting me through all of this.

Now for some great news….you ready? If you haven’t heard already there has been huge steps made in the research into Crohn’s and Colitis. Finally! Let me tell you, as someone who has been dealing with this for almost my entire life this is the biggest relief I have felt in a while. It doesn’t even have to do with me and I’m insanely excited. The studies show that there might be a fungus that causes these diseases in some cases. Unfortunately for me, mine is genetic so there is still a lot of research to do before we find out why people like me get it. But if this is true do you see the huge things that could be happening?!? Well let me tell you…

Medicines are going to change and become more effective. That means less trial and error. It might not take trying different medicines to find something that works or having a nice medical cocktail to make you feel better. This is insane and I have never been so proud. We’re doing something right. All these walks, runs, etc. are actually raising awareness and funding the research. It’s working. Honestly I have tears in my eyes while writing this because this is so big!

I can’t stress this enough, progress is finally being made. So thank you to everyone who has donated to walks, shared my story raising awareness, held my hand in hospitals, walked next to me at events. You guys are the superstars and I cannot thank you enough. Even you reading this is raising more and more awareness. It’s working and there are so many amazing things that can happen now if we just

Facing Trauma Head On

For the longest time I didn’t truly understand what trauma meant. I didn’t believe you could have PTSD without seeing wartime. I was very wrong. In the past couple of years, I have been trying to understand and learn from my traumas. Of course, they will never go away but understanding and accepting them helps. This year, between work, life, and everything else, I planned my yearly post-transplant check up on the same week as my actual transplantaversary. Looking back now that was a huge mistake. There is a certain type of anxiety leading up to the anniversary and a very different anxiety leading up to going back to where it all began. ~ 12 Years Later ~

I know I always talk about how difficult the year has been when I write these anniversary posts. This year makes all the 12 others look like a piece of cake. Last year when I was doing my reflecting, I was trying to get a grasp on the fact that I was officially insulin dependent. I thought that was going to be the big change of the year. Then comes September. I told you that I have a huge decision to make. Have I made my decision yet? Absolutely not. Do I have a clear answer in my head? Still no. I did start my infusions for my active Crohn's. It is still weird saying I have Crohn's. I spent 26 years convinced it was UC. That's forever considering I just turned 30. It's already pretty hard to realize that I have spent my entire life knowing nothing but being sick, but now it was the completely wrong disease?
